Respawn trolls Apex Legends players with cheeky April Fool’s weapon

April Fool’s Day is upon us, and Respawn Entertainment got in on the fun by putting golden Mozambiques back into Apex Legends’ weapon rotation temporarily – but this version comes with a major twist.

The humble shotgun might be Apex Legends’ most infamous gun. Severely lacking the ability to really do anything when the game released, it became an instant meme among players and fans.

The Mozambique has since been buffed enough to where it works just fine, with a gold version released for players back in Season 2 and now, it’s back and better than ever.

Apex Legends may not have gone all out like Overwatch did for April Fool’s this year, but their prank is pretty dang clever as well.

Rather than just bringing back the standard, gold version of the shotgun, the April Fool’s version has a supercharged fire rate, along with a nine-round clip, golden shotgun bolt, and a digital threat scope.

As Apex streamer thekine discovered when first finding the weapon, at first it almost looks like a regular Mozambique laying on the floor, until you look at it in your inventory and start testing it out.

Players have also reported that the drop rate for the little gold shotguns seems to be pretty high, which makes sense, since developers would want as many people as possible to get in on the joke.

A load of super Mozambique spawns isn’t all Respawn has cooked up for April Fool’s either, in an effort to add even more chaos to matches, they’ve also upped the number of shotgun ammo players can carry considerably.

As for what Respawn have said on the matter, the official Apex Twitter even replied to thekine’s shocked tweet, telling him and the rest of the community to “enjoy” the temporarily upgraded super-weapon.

This prank should definitely make your Apex matches a little more interesting, but if you want to check out this super-upgraded version of the Mozambique you should log on ASAP, because it most likely won’t be around for very long.

As of now, it appears that these are the extent of April Fool’s-themed changes that Respawn have implemented, but if we find more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
