ESPN has collaborated with OpTic Gaming to deliver a behind the scenes look at the life of an esports competitor.
On May 18th, ESPN Deportes’ released the much-anticipated video featuring the fan Call of Duty favorite team.
The video features OpTicCEO Hector ‘H3Cz’ Rodriguez as well as the Call of Duty roster of Seth ‘Scump’ Abner’, Matt ‘FormaL’ Piper, Damon ‘Karma’ Barlow, and Ian ‘Crimsix’ Porter.
It was filmed at the SCUF House in preparation for Group Green of the CWL Global Pro League.
Scump explains that the reason OpTic continue to be victorious is due to himself and the team all being fierce competitors. Throughout the duration of the video, the general consensus from each player is that there is a lot of work put into getting better, which means sacrificing times with friends and family in order to win.
Crimsix describes his own experience when it comes to practice.
“I’ve been preparing a lot despite my girlfriend getting mad at me. We’re at the grocery store and I’m watching the competition and watching league matches by basically putting my real life self on a drone. Coming into tournaments it’s usually 10 hours a day preparing.
Six hours a day playing and four hours a day watching himself and watching other teams. I’ve noticed huge mistakes in my individual play and I have taken steps to fix that.”
The video is predominately in English, but a small section features owner H3Cz speaking in Spanish.
OpTic went on to win Group Green the weekend after the video was shot, putting up a flawless 6-0 record to advance as the first seed into the CWL Global Pro League playoffs.
The team will now face off against FaZe in the first matchup of the double elimination tournament, taking on the winner of EnVyUs or Luminosity should they progress through James ‘Clayster’ Eubanks team.
Matches kick off on May 26th live from the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
