FaZe Clan finish day one of the CWL Dallas Open strong, topping their group at 3-0 after a win against Luminosity.
On the first occasion on which two of Infinite Warfare’s top squads have clashed, it’s FaZe Clan who have come out on top.
It was a fairly typical series for Luminosity. They came out swinging in the Hardpoint, taking an early series lead which they then immediately relinquished in the Search and Destroy. Uplink was another map in LG’s favour, putting them on match point, but unfortunately they weren’t able to close out the series.
Luminosity are consistently reliant on the respawn game modes, so a team the calibre FaZe were always going to be a tough match-up for Luminosity. When LG were unable to take the second Hardpoint map, FaZe gained the upper hand by a large margin, and sure enough it was a comfortable fifth map with that sealed the deal in their favour.
FaZe are now all but guaranteed a spot in the winner bracket, and perhaps more importantly, if they can pick up a win against the open bracket team tomorrow they should stand a good chance of avoiding the likes of OpTic Gaming in the first round of the play-offs.
For Luminosity, however, things are now far less certain. Having also suffered a loss at the hands of Fnatic, there’s a distinct possibility that LG may find themselves playing from the lower bracket, despite being named a favourite to make it out.
