eUnited and FaZe took the lead in their groups with wins against Cloud9 and Fnatic respectively.
The CWL Atlanta champions eUnited are looking good so far in Dallas after a slightly disappointing top-12 at the CWL Paris. Having taken down Millenium in a five game series, they’d be facing CWL Vegas runners-up Cloud9 in their second match of the tournament.
Though Cloud9 have struggled since their impressive run in Vegas, they seem to have figured something out for this event. Having defeated MindFreak in their first match, they started this series hot with an impressive performance from ‘Assault’ and ‘Lacefield’ to take the first map.
From there, however, it was eUnited who managed to reassert themselves, regaining momentum with a strong win in Search and Destroy and carrying it through to ultimately take the series 3-1.
Fnatic put up an impressive resistance against CWL Paris finalists FaZe, but ultimately they weren’t able to match the elite North American squad. A hard-fought Hardpoint went FaZe’s way to kick off the series, and though Fnatic responded with an SND win, respawn superiority saw FaZe close it out before Fnatic got a chance to repeat the feat, taking the series 3-1.
Each now sitting at 2-0 in their respective groups, both eUnited and FaZe are primed to ensure themselves a spot in the winner bracket of the play-offs.
